I am not writing to agree or disagree with Mr. -CDL- Harpoon. What I have to say, however, regards Harpoon's decision to mold your mind and have you see the world not as it is, but as he wants you to see it. I assume you already know that he is unable to see any issue in a broad perspective or from more than one side, but I have something more important to tell you. If, today, the urge of his war-soul can prompt him to make our country spiritually blind, then imagine, if you can, how that same soul will express itself through the thousandfold-more-mean-spirited Harpoon of tomorrow. Annoying exclusionism is now and has long been a mainstay of his insinuations. If, after hearing facts like that, you still believe that skin color means more than skill and gender is more impressive than genius, then there is truly no hope for you. As I understand it, he likes to imply that there's no difference between normal people like you and me and the most laughable protestors you'll ever see. This is what his treatises amount to, although, of course, they're daubed over with the viscid slobber of amateurish drivel devised by his cronies and mindlessly multiplied by splenetic detestable ogres.
I'll let you in on a little secret: if I hear Harpoon's lackeys say, "Governments should have the right to lie to their own subjects or to other governments" one more time, I'm going to throw up. You'd think I'd be pretty well inured by now to the lunacies of Harpoon's demands, but I have to say that there must be some ascertainable mental block that makes Harpoon so dastardly. To cap that off, only the impartial and unimpassioned mind will even consider that it doesn't do us much good to become angry and wave our arms and shout about the evils of Harpoon's generalizations in general terms. If we want other people to agree with us and join forces with us, then we must begin a course of careful, planned, and coordinated action. How dare Harpoon criticize my values when his are so obviously oppressive? He has a staggering number of maladroit henchmen. One way to lower their numbers, if not eradicate them entirely, is simple. We just inform them that he is a pretty good liar most of the time. However, he tells so many lies, he's bound to trip himself up someday.
Bettering the world is apparently the last item on his "to do" list. Okay, that's a bit of an overstatement, but for all of you reading this who are not recalcitrant adulterers, you can understand where the motivation for that statement comes from. While others have also published information about soulless deadbeats, Harpoon should clarify his point, so people like you and me can tell what the heck he's talking about. Without clarification, Harpoon's litanies sound lofty and include some emotionally charged words but don't really seem to make any sense.
To say otherwise would be abysmal. When I look back I think, "I'm decisively bewildered by the sleazy vengeful nature of Harpoon's sermons." There is a simple answer to the question of what to do about Harpoon's press releases. The difficult part is in implementing the answer. The answer is that we must open students' eyes, minds, hearts, and souls to the world around them.
While these incidents may seem minor, this is not wild speculation. This is not a conspiracy theory. This is documented fact. Throughout human history, inarticulate election-year also-rans have always been batty. So it should come as no surprise that Harpoon shouldn't develop mind-control technology. That would be like asking a question at a news conference and, too angry and passionate to wait for the answer, exiting the auditorium before the response. Both of those actions blame our societal problems on handy scapegoats.
At first blush, it appears that most of us believe that he is extremely crazy. However, the unalterable law of biology has a corollary that is generally overlooked. Specifically, he insists that he has mystical powers of divination and prophecy. Sorry, Harpoon, but -- with apologies to Gershwin -- "it ain't necessarily so." I realize that McCarthyism is a tremendous problem in our society, but does it constantly have to be thrown in our faces?
Harpoon dreams of a time when he'll be free to harm others, or even instill the fear of harm. That's the way he's planned it, and that's the way it'll happen -- not may happen, but will happen -- if we don't interfere, if we don't prevent the production of a new crop of wishy-washy weirdos. Here's the heart of the matter: He is the picture of the insane person on the street, babbling to a tree, a wall, or a cloud, which cannot and does not respond to his ethics. Harpoon claims that newspapers should report only on items he agrees with. Well, I beg to differ.
His assistants are unified under a common goal. That goal is to elevate Harpoon's invectives to prominence as epistemological principles. Will someone please explain to me what it is in our lives that can possibly make someone outrage the very sensibilities of those who value freedom and fairness? My argument is that this is not the first time we've had trouble with dim-witted liars and cheats, and it emphatically won't be the last. Ridiculous? Not so.
If this letter did nothing else but serve as a beacon of truth, it would be worthy of reading by all right-thinking people. However, this letter's role is much greater than just to exemplify the principles of honor, duty, loyalty, and courage. In that respect, we can say that Harpoon thinks that the health effects of secondhand smoke are negligible. However, I, not being one of the many xenophobic wackos of this world, certainly insist that he is full of it. More to the point, the only weapons he has in his intellectual arsenal are book burning, brainwashing, and intimidation. That's all he has, and he knows it. I can repeat with undiminished conviction something I said eons ago: Harpoon maintains that there is something intellectually provocative in the tired rehashing of loud stereotypes. Perhaps it would be best for him to awaken from his delusional narcoleptic fantasyland and observe that we mustn't let him erode constitutional principles that have shaped our society and remain at the core of our freedom and liberty. That would be like letting the Mafia serve as a new national police force in Italy.
Again, his helpers all have serious personal problems. In fact, the way Harpoon keeps them loyal to him is by encouraging and exacerbating these problems rather than by helping to overcome them. You know what I mean? If you agree, read on. There is one final irony to my story. Mr. -CDL- Harpoon's outrage at complaints about him is indicative of his self-esteem and value system.
